The Southeastern Amateur Course (Columbus Country Club)

Hole 2
Downhill Straight Par 4, 408 Yards

Sometimes playing the course at CCC (lovingly referred to as the Royal CCC by the members) is about making choices. And like so many times in golf, taking what the course gives you. The second hole is a great example.

One might say that you almost have to hit it over the large oak that extends out into your line of sight from the tee. And certainly, you have to account for it by either going over it, or around it. A bomber might be tempted to take a swipe and catch the down hill just past the bunker on the left side of the fairway. However keeping it in the fairway becomes and challenge and there is that dreaded two letter word O.B. on the left. The fairway slopes heavily from right to left in the landing zone and your ball is guaranteed to go left because of hit. Play to the right side.

From the fairway, a short iron approach needs to finish below the hole. This green slopes severely back to front and is well guarded by thick rough. Over the green is the #3 tee box and almost guarantees a blemish on the card. Two good shots leaves an uphill birdie putt and anything else is likely to have you scrambling for par.
